MURDER:
Murder / Assault 2---w/a Dangerous Weapon
45XX Bryant Ave N Tuesday 6/26/12 0834hrs 12-196412
V1/male, 5 yrs, was shot & killed at this location as he slept on a couch. V2/male, 51 yrs, suffered minor injuries. No suspect information at this time. Further investigation is underway.

ARSON:
Arson / Recovered Vehicle
35XX Penn Ave N Saturday 6/30/12 1341hrs 12-201697
MFD & MPD responded to a vehicle fire at this location. The origin of the fire was the front dashboard on the driver’s side & the cause was determined to be Arson. The plastic dashboard melted & exposed wiring in this area. There was smoke damage on all the windows & smoke damage throughout the vehicle. A plastic bottle cap was found on the front floor on the driver’s side & MFD detected a strong odor of gasoline on the rim. Estimated damage from the fire is $5000. It was determined to be a stolen vehicle. No injuries. No suspects. The vehicle was towed & held for the Arson Unit.

ASSAULT:
Assault 2---w/a Dangerous Weapon
25XX Bryant Ave N Tuesday 6/26/12 0238hrs 12-196312
Officer was dispatched to a shot spotter call at the above location, where the shot spotter detected approx. 10 shots. Officer could see that the rear door was shot & noted bullet holes through the east side of the house. OT1/female, 34 yrs, a resident here, was uncooperative & reluctant to speak to police. When asked who she thought the shooter(s) intended to shoot, she said her nephews. V1/female, 22 yrs showed officer her shirt which had 2 bullet holes in it. V1 said a bullet passed through her shirt & exited, but she was not injured. Most of the people in the house including OT1 were uncooperative & would not provide much information. No injuries. No suspects.

Officers were dispatched to the above location on an Assault & met V1/male, 25 yrs, who was sitting on the front step. V1 stated he was walking home through the alley when 2 unknown males assaulted him with an unknown black object. V1 stated the suspects fled after the assault. V1 had 2 broken teeth & a 3” laceration under his chin. V1 did not know how many times he had been hit. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance. Suspects were GOA.

Officers responded to an Assault in progress & met V1/female, 24 yrs, who stated she was hit with a baseball bat by S1/male, 27 yrs, an old acquaintance. V1 stated she was following S1 in a van. V1 said S1 hit her 3 times & later pointed a gun at her & the occupants in her vehicle. V1 refused medical & there were no signs of injury. Officers observed the suspect vehicle & saw a baseball bat which was removed & inventoried.

22XX Glenwood Ave Friday 6/29/12 0339hrs 12-200009
Officers were dispatched to the above location on an Assault. V1/female, 23 yrs, was bleeding heavily from her nose & she had a slight lump near her eye. V1 stated she couldn’t open her eye & it hurt. V1 appeared to be intoxicated & admitted she had drinking downtown. V1 stated she was pushed to the ground & kicked & punched by unknown S1/male, at this address. EMS personnel thought that one of the eye bones near V1’s eye might be broken & she was transported to the hospital via ambulance. S1 was not located.

16th Ave N & Bryant Ave N Sunday 7/1/12 0502hrs 12-202649
Officers responded to the call of a person with a gun & located the suspect vehicle following V1/female, 23 yrs. Officers stopped the vehicle & noted that AP1/male, 38 yrs, matched the description of the party who threatened V1 with a gun. S1/female, 37 yrs, stated she had a pistol in her glove compartment & had a permit to conceal & carry. V1 stated AP1 pointed the handgun at her while she was driving due to a domestic dispute with his brother, S2/58 yrs. AP1 was booked in HCJ for Assault 2 & PC Weapons.

Assault 4---Assault Police/Emergency Personnel
7XX Penn Ave N Sunday 7/1/12 1632hrs 12-203020
Officer was speaking with parties involved in a neighbor dispute & made contact with AP1/male, 40 yrs. who was singled out as the aggressor. AP1 became verbally aggressive & uncooperative & followed the officer in a challenging manner. AP1 was told to return home & cease his disturbing behavior. AP1 slapped the officer’s hand & got into a fighting stance. AP1 head-butted the officer in the chin as they wrestled, & swung at officer with his fists while resisting arrest. AP1 was eventually handcuffed & booked in HCJ for PC Assault 4. Officer sustained minor injuries.

ROBBERY:
ROBBIZ (Hair Plus Beauty)
10XX Broadway Ave W Wednesday 6/27/12 1628hrs 12-198057
Officers were dispatched to an Assault in Progress. Officers could smell a pungent smell of mace & learned from V2/female, 19 yrs, that S4/male, 18-20 yrs, walked into the store & she recognized him as a person who has stolen from the biz. in the past. S4 was asked to leave & sprayed mace into the face of V1/female, 45 yrs. He also grabbed hair extensions valued at $125 each. S1/female, 18-20 yrs was guarding the door & S3/female, 18-20 yrs, was receiving the loot from S4. V2 stated S2/female, 18-20 yrs, ran to the back of the store & knocked over displays. S2 then punched V1 in the head. All suspects fled out the front of the biz. There are cameras in the store & the incident should be available on tape. Loss is valued at $1025.

21st Ave N & Aldrich Ave N Wednesday 6/27/12 2100hrs 12-198520
Officer was approached by PG1/female, 37 yrs, who stated her daughter, V1/17 yrs, was just robbed at gunpoint. V1 stated she was on her bike when she was approached by 4 unknown males. They asked V1 if she wanted to buy marijuana or if she had a cigarette & she said “no” to both. S1/16-20 yrs, pulled out a gun & demanded her belongings. V1 forfeited her cell phone & approx. $65 in cash. As V1 rode away, suspects yelled out the gang name “YNT.” V1 stated that just prior to officer’s arrival, a female drove to her home, gave her back the cell phone & apologized that her boys took it. V1 does not know who the lady was. V1 was not injured.

Oak Park Ave & Queen Ave N Thursday 6/28/12 2257hrs 12-200471
V1/male, 28 yrs, came to the 4th Pct to report he was robbed at gunpoint the night before. V1 walked a friend to the bus at the above location & when he was returning home, 3 unknown males, 18-23 yrs, approached him & asked for a light. As V1 reached into his pocket for a light, one of the 3 males produced an automatic handgun & demanded his wallet & phone. V1 threw both items to the ground & ran. The wallet contained ID & $20 in cash. The cell phone is valued at $400. V1 was not injured. V1 reported the incident the following day, as he did not have a phone.

18TH Ave N & Bryant Ave N Friday 6/29/12 2124hrs 12-200876
Officers responded to the above location on the report of one down. Officers found V1/male, face-up on the ground, not moving. V1’s pockets were partially out of his pants & there was loose change on the ground next to him. There were no obvious signs of injury, but he was not breathing. Ambulance was called to the scene code 3. When V1 was turned over, there was a small amount of blood on the back of his head & in the street. Officer conducted CPR until Paramedics arrived. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance. No suspect information.

Officers were dispatched to the above location on a Robbery of Person & met V1/female, 32 yrs, who stated 2 unknown males took her purse. V1 stated she was at the intersection with the driver’s window down on her vehicle, waiting for the light to change when one suspect made small talk while the other suspect grabbed her purse. V1 stated S2 had a handgun in his waistband & pointed to it. V1 stated the suspects then fled on foot. Officers noticed 2 parties matching the suspect descriptions & they were detained. Officers attempted to conduct a “show-up” but V1 was uncooperative & refused to answer officer’s questions. V1 did not require medical attention.

Glenwood Ave & Penn Ave N Saturday 6/30/12 1205hrs 12-201607
V1/male, 35-50 yrs, stated he was at the corner bus shelter at the above location when 3-4 males, 18-22 yrs, came into the bus shelter & stated he couldn’t hang in their area. V1 stated a suspect punched him at some point & removed his wallet from his pocket. V1 stated there was no money in the wallet. V1 was uncooperative at first & had been drinking. Ambulance transported V1 to the hospital for stitches on his chin. Witnesses validated V1’s story. V1 stated he didn’t remember much because he had been drinking. Suspects were GOA.

V1/male, 24 yrs, approached officer at 45XX Lyndale Ave N, stating he had just been robbed in North Mississippi Park. V1 said he was walking in the park when unknown S1/male put a gun to his head & told him to take off his backpack or he would shoot him. V1 removed the backpack & S1 fled with same. V1 stated the backpack contained a laptop computer valued at $500. V1 said he had cash & a cell phone in his pocket, but S1 did not ask for anything else. V1 was not injured.

4X Aldrich Ave N Sunday 7/1/12 0857hrs 12-202728
Officers were dispatched to the above location on the report of a Robbery of Person & met V1/male, 60 yrs. V1 stated S1/male, 40-45 yrs, is a friend that lives in St. Paul, a few blocks away from V1’s address. V1 stated S1 called for a ride to north Minneapolis. After picking up S1, V1 went to cash machine to get some money. S1 instructed V1 to drive ½ down the alley in the above area & then grabbed at V1, attempting to take V1’s wallet. V1 struggled with S1 who is larger than V1 & attempted to get out the driver’s door. S1 was able to grab V1’s wallet from his pocket & then fled on foot. V1 ran after S1 & S1 stopped & yelled at V1, asking where the money was. S1 then grabbed V1 & forcibly removed the cash from V1’s pocket. V1 received a minor scratch to his hand. Loss is $125 in cash. V1 does not know why S1 would rob him as he’s given him rides in the past. S1 was GOA.

26th Ave N & Newton Ave N Sunday 7/1/12 1700hrs 12-204001
V1/female, 32 yrs, walked into the Pct to report she had been robbed the previous day. V1 stated she took a large amount of cash from the ATM at 26th & Penn Ave N. V1 stated she was walking when 2 unknown males approached her & grabbed her purse. One of the suspects threatened to shoot V1 if she did not forfeit her purse. V1 was pushed to the ground, scratching her leg & suspects ran off with the purse which contained $520 in cash. The Coach purse is valued at $200. V1 did not see a gun. Suspects were GOA.

52nd Ave N & Russell Ave N Monday 7/2/12 1610hrs 12-204093
Officers were dispatched to a Robbery of Person at 50XX Penn Ave N. V1/male, 16 yrs, stated he was robbed at knifepoint while inside his car by 4 unknown males, 17-20 yrs. V1 stated the incident happened at the dead end of 52nd & Russell N. V1 stated he attempted to make a U-turn at the dead end & observed the suspects emerge from some tall grass. S1 took out a 3” pocket knife & said this was robbery. S2 approached the driver’s door & threatened that he had a handgun in his waistband. V1 did not observe a gun. S3 & S4 opened the rear passenger door & went through V1’s vehicle. V1 stated he handed over his cell phone & $20. Suspects went through V1’s trunk before fleeing. V1 was not injured. Suspects were GOA.

10XX 16th Ave N Tuesday 6/26/12 0829hrs 12-196410
Officers executed a search warrant at the above address & knocked loudly several times, announcing “Police--Search Warrant.” When no one answered the door, it was forced open. OT1/female, 29 yrs, was standing in the living room when officers entered. A handgun was found in a baby bag along with a black holster. OT1 stated the bag was hers but not the gun. Items were confiscated & property inventoried. No arrests.

21st Ave N & Lyndale Ave N Wednesday 6/27/12 1834hrs 12-198196
Officers were on patrol in the above area & observed a vehicle use an alley as a through street. The driver, AP1/female, 25 yrs, also failed to signal a turn & officers conducted a traffic stop. Officers observed AP2/male, 22 yrs, duck down in the vehicle as if trying to conceal something or reach for something. AP2 was asked to step out of the vehicle & he fled on foot. AP2 was apprehended several blocks away. A loaded Glock .40 caliber was found under the passenger seat. Since neither AP1 nor AP2 had permits to carry, both were book in HCJ for PC Weapons.

42nd Ave N & James Ave N Wednesday 6/27/12 1905hrs 12-198228
Officers initiated a traffic stop at the above location after it was learned that the driver, AP1/male, 22 yrs, had a suspended DL. The vehicle was also occupied by AP2/male, 22 yrs, who was the front seat passenger. Officer could smell the odor of marijuana inside the vehicle & when confronted about it, AP1 handed officer a marijuana cigarette. During a search of the vehicle officer located a loaded .22 caliber handgun under the front passenger seat. The handgun was accessible by both AP1 & AP2. AP’s stated they did not have a permit to carry. Officers also located a digital scale in the trunk of the vehicle & plastic baggies containing suspected crack/cocaine amongst AP1’s belongings. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons & PC Narcotics. AP2 was booked for PC Weapons.

Broadway Ave W & Girard Ave N Thursday 6/28/12 1558hrs 12-199317
Officers were conducting plainclothes surveillance in the area of 25th Ave N & Bryant Ave N & observed a vehicle pull over in front of an address known to associate with the YNT street gang. This address has recently been shot up by rival gang members. The vehicle was stopped for traffic violations & the driver gave consent to officers to search the vehicle. A handgun was recovered from the rear seat. AP1/male, 20 yrs, was booked for PC Weapons.

Emerson Ave N & Lowry Ave N Friday 6/29/12 2309hrs 12-201035
Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for equipment violation. The front passenger exited the vehicle & fled on foot. After a short foot chase, AP1/male, 22 yrs, was apprehended & searched. A revolver was recovered from his pocket, as well as a large amount of suspected crack/cocaine. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons, PC Narcotics, & a Felony Warrant.

3rd St N & 30th Ave N Sunday 7/1/12 0003hrs 12-202354
Officers conducted a traffic stop & when they approached the vehicle, officers observed a handgun under the front driver’s seat of the vehicle. The driver did not have a permit to carry a weapon. Officers conducted an inventory search of the vehicle & found what appeared to be cocaine. The field test showed positive results. AP1/ male, 25 yrs, was booked for PC Weapons & PC Narcotics.

22nd Ave N & Dupont Ave N Monday 7/2/12 1807hrs 12-204211
This is an ongoing “Safe Streets Task Force” investigation. AP1/male, 19 yrs, was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons. AP2/male, 17 yrs, was booked in JDC for PC Weapons. AP3/male, 22 yrs, was booked in HCJ for Felony Warrant & Fleeing officers on Foot. AP4/male, 14 yrs, was booked in JDC for Fleeing Officers on Foot. All evidence was property inventoried.
